Yakutia. Winter. At a remote reindeer herders’ camp, fifty-year-old Nikolai lives with his wife and son, Grisha. Reindeer herding has been their family’s way of life for generations. But Grisha has no interest in following in his father’s footsteps. Determined to build a life of his own, he decides to leave for the city. For Nikolai, the news comes as a devastating blow. The day before his son’s departure is filled with anxiety and mounting inner tension. As he goes about his daily work, Nikolai struggles through a quiet personal crisis, confronting the possibility that the family tradition may end with him. By the end of the day, he must find the strength to let his son go.
